Driver Safety Tips: Hands-Free Is Not Risk Free (Infographic)

Posted by Kyle Forbush on Mar 27, 2019 4:39:52 PM

Safety First written on the roadThe #1 concern of Fleet Services is the safety of our clients. We strive to educate on the topic with our blog series, Driver Safety Tips, as well as providing convenient ways to contact our fleet professionals to answer any questions or concerns a driver may have. If a car does break down on the road, we provide 24/7/365 emergency roadside assistance. However, mechanical failures and environmental conditions are NOT the primary cause of car accidents. With smartphone technology constantly buzzing in every driver's pocket and tempting people with the concept of instant gratification, Fleet has recognized a need for advocates that teach & influence drivers to avoid distractions while behind the wheel.

The National Safety Council, or NSC, is a non-profit organization that is dedicated to reducing the number of workplace & on-the-road accidents that happen in the U.S. each year. According to the NSC's mission statement, they accomplish this through, "...leadership, research, education and advocacy." Fleet Services has found that the NSC has the most extensive knowledge base when it comes to driver safety.

In their online database, we found a helpful info-graphic that details the dilemma of the "hands-free" function on devices, which many people believe to be less dangerous to use while driving. Contrarily, the NSC's studies have actually found that any use of technology while driving--whether hands-free or otherwise--drastically increases the chances of an accident.

View the NSC's info-graphic on why hands-free is NOT risk-free below, and leave a comment with your response! And, as always, buckle up & stay safe!
