Operating a motorized vehicle in and of itself, is a huge responsibility. We have to be completely aware of our surroundings by checking three different mirrors all at once, using turn signals to change lanes, reading caution and directional road signs, checking to be sure there's enough fuel in the tank, that we stay within the speed limit, and the list goes on. Now, think about all we do beyond these normalities. Are you ever running late for work and attempt to simultaneously make a phone call, eat breakfast, sip coffee, tie your tie, and drive all at once? While performing these daily rituals we rarely stop to think about the dangers we're exposing ourselves to. Well, what if there was a way to safely and effectively drive while completing our side tasks? The answer: Autonomous Cars!
Autonomous cars operate with very advanced on-board computing systems and mechanical hardware, allowing drivers to become passengers. A leading manufacturer of these driverless wonders,Tesla Motors, predicts that autonomous vehicles will become mainstream within the next 15 to 20 years. The company expects these cars to eventually dominate the road. Nissan believes that by 2020, they will have thoroughly functioning, autonomous city cars taking to the streets. Although there is plenty of skepticism regarding this new type of driving, it seems the technological building blocks for fully autonomous cars are in place, and it won't be long before this futuristic vision becomes our reality!
